Kempsey to host Australian premiere of Slim & I movie

Slim Dusty holds a special place in the heart of Kempsey and on Thursday 3 September the Australian and World Premiere of the feature documentary Slim & I will take place at Majestic Cinemas Kempsey with members of Slim’s family including Joy McKean and film makers in attendance.

Slim & I tells the incredible story of a partnership between Slim Dusty and the brilliant woman who lived beside, rather than behind, the legend, Australia’s own "Queen of Country Music", Joy McKean.

Council have partnered with Universal Pictures Australia and Majestic Cinemas to make this event possible.

Residents are encouraged to attend the screening with tickets on sale now. Each ticket includes a choc top or popcorn, and drink.

Tickets are limited and bookings are essential. Tickets can be purchased via Majestic Cinemas website  or at the cinema box office.

Kempsey schools take part in food waste reduction trial

Four schools in the Kempsey area are taking part in a new pilot program that aims to cut food waste in schools, help families save money, and have a positive impact on the environment, as part of Kempsey Shire Council’s involvement in the Love Food Communities program.

Every student wastes 3kg of food each year on average. In Australia each year, students throw away 3.5 million uneaten sandwiches, 3 million pieces of whole fruit and 1.3 million items of packaged foods.

The Lunchbox Leftovers pilot program will trial three interventions - Make Your Own Lunch, Take Leftovers Home and Play Before Eating.
