It also shows where grave sites are reserved, occupied or vacant, which will assist cemetery administrators and funeral directors, among others.
Before Council maintained the cemetery records, they were managed and stored by local churches. Not all historical records were transferred to Council as some were lost over time due to the many natural disasters that have affected the region.
The Macleay River Historical Society and the Kempsey Family History Group both have extensive collections of local history and family files, including cemetery records. These are available to anyone researching local families, locations and topics.
