Vandals caused significant damage to Frederickton's grassed netball courts on Thursday night and have forced this area to be closed.

Kempsey Shire Council is aware of acts of vandalism that have occurred overnight on Thursday 4 August at Frederickton sports fields, which have caused considerable surface damage to the grassed netball courts resulting in their closure. Vandals cut the chain that prevents vehicles from accessing the oval with an angle grinder before they began to damage the fields.

The most disappointing part about this vandalism is that the fields are used by many community organisations, who work hard throughout the year with Council to ensure the fields are in appropriate condition for the safety of those using it. With only limited resources to patrol and maintain the grounds, it is local user groups who are most hurt by these actions.

We are working towards restoring the grounds as soon as possible and expect the fields to reopen around Friday 19 August.
