We regret to advise the community that the East Kempsey Cemetery has been the target of vandalism over the weekend of 16 - 17 September.
The vandalism is spread throughout the cemetery and appears to be at random with damage including defacement of headstones, breakage of vases and the removal of flowers and other mementoes.
Kempsey Shire Council staff have made every effort to clean up the cemetery on Tuesday 19 September and have attempted to the best of their knowledge, to return broken and removed items back to their proper places.
This situation will be confronting and a difficult time for families and council would like to reassure them and the wider community that steps are being taken in connection with local authorities to track down the vandals.
Anyone with any information or footage of the vandalism is encouraged to please contact Kempsey Police Station.
