Thank you for a fabulous 2023 Big Day Out!
Published on 07 December 2023
Thank you to everyone in community who joined in the celebrations for International Day of People With Disability (IDPWD) at the Big Day Out in Kempsey last Friday.
We couldn’t have asked for a better or more successful day! While it was an absolute scorcher, we were thrilled the sun was shining, and the tunes were pumping, as we recognised what a valuable contribution people with disability make to our vibrant community here in the Macleay Valley.
Over 1,000 people attended this annual event throughout the day, including school students who came down to Riverside Park to join in the fun. This inclusive event facilitated not only fun, but a chance for attendees to be able to connect with the 25 different support agencies we have in our community providing information and disability support services in the area.
Aisha Spokes Community Development Officer at Kempsey Shire Council and member of Macleay Disability Inclusion Group commented “It was bigger and better than last year! It really met the purpose of celebrating inclusion and people with disability in our community. Providing them with the opportunity to participate in community, connect with each other, as well as with support services. It also helped contribute to raising positive attitudes towards people with disability.”
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the amazing array of community partners and sponsors who make events like this possible including:
There were so many highlights from the action-packed day but a special shout out to a few “The karaoke was a huge hit with lots of participation through singing and dancing the whole day” said Aisha Spokes.
“Bunnings warehouse did a cracker job at cooking the BBQ and Key Community Group staff had a production line to serve up a wonderful lunch to the eager attendees – thanks to those guys!”
“YP Space kept the young and young at heart delighted with fairy floss and popcorn and local business Bransley Park was a huge hit with their petting zoo”.
The Macleay Disability Inclusion Group has had huge amount of positive feedback throughout the day and post event and are excited to host next year’s event which will be on Friday 6 December 2024.
So please save the date!
