Locals and visitors are being encouraged to make a Plan B when making plans to go out this Christmas and New Year holiday season.

As part of the Plan B campaign, three local venues are giving away a swag in a competition that will run until 3 January 2024.

To have a chance to win a swag, participants need to complete an entry form at the venue including their Plan B.

The following venues will each run their own competition:

Heritage Hotel Gladstone

Riverview Hotel Smithtown

West Kempsey Hotel

If you're planning to go out and have a few drinks, then you need a Plan B.

Your Plan B could be a taxi, phoning a friend, organising a designated driver, catching a bus or packing your swag!

Help everyone get home safely. Whenever you're making plans for a night out, don't forget to make your Plan B.

Drink driving was a contributing factor in 19% of all fatalities and 7% of all serious injuries on NSW roads in 2020.

Although the risks of drink driving are widely reported, many people underestimate the effects ‘a few drinks’ can have on their driving skills and overestimate their ability as a driver.

When faced with the potential inconvenience of finding an alternative way home, some simply choose to drink and drive.

However, the effects of driving with alcohol in one’s system, even only small amounts are wide ranging and impossible to avoid - slowed brain function, reduced ability to make decisions or react quickly, reduced balance and coordination, and elevated confidence, leading to greater risk taking.

If you’re drinking, don’t drive.
