Thirteen new citizens from ten corners of the globe were welcomed to the Macleay at a heartfelt citizenship ceremony at the Slim Dusty Centre on Thursday 12 June 2025.

The atmosphere was one of pride and celebration as friends, family, and community members gathered to witness the occasion. The Aussie spirit was loud and proud with smiles, applause, and warm embraces shared as each new citizen made the pledge of commitment to Australia and its people.

An extra spark of joy came to the room, when a newly minted citizen enthusiastically roused the crowd with an “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!”.

Mayor Kinne Ring congratulated the new citizens, acknowledging the richness of culture, experience and diversity they bring to the community.

“Becoming a citizen is a significant milestone that symbolises your commitment to Australia. We’re so proud to have you here in Kempsey and we hope you feel truly at home,” the Mayor said.

Citizenship ceremonies are a powerful reminder of what it means to be Australian; sharing values of freedom, democracy, respect, and a fair go for all. For many, it’s the final step in a long journey, and the beginning of a bright new chapter.

We extend a warm welcome to our newest citizens and thank them for choosing Kempsey, and Australia, as their home.
