Ever wondered how water reaches your tap, what happens to your rubbish, or how floods are managed? This Local Government Week, Kempsey Shire Council is inviting the community to go behind the scenes and discover how essential services work.
Steuart McIntyre Dam Tour – Monday 4 August, 10–11am
Join us at Steuart McIntyre Dam for a guided tour and learn how clean water reaches your tap and how wastewater is safely returned to the environment.
Waste Management Centre Tour – Thursday 7 August, 10–11am
Explore the Waste Management Centre on Crescent Head Road and find out how we manage waste, leachate, and landfill—and how recycling benefits our community.

Flood Preparedness Briefing – Thursday 7 August, 5.30–7pm
Join our Flood Community Briefing for a hands-on look at how flooding affects our region—and how Council prepares. Using maps and other tools, you’ll visually explore how rainfall moves through the catchment and impacts the Macleay River.
You’ll also:
- Learn how Council’s floodgates operate and why they’re vital to protecting homes
- Discover how infrastructure planning helps reduce flood risks
