Council teams still hard at work with flood repairs

Council teams have been working steadily the past few weeks to restore many of the roads and bridges across our shire that were damaged in the recent flood disaster.

Much of the work has been completed however there is still more to be done.

Moparrabah Road:

• The Moparrabah Road slip has been successfully repaired
• Access has been reinstated for residents on Moparrabah Road to Willi Willi Road
• The road remains closed at the causeway structure on Parrabel/Majors Creek
• Plans were already in place for a new bridge to be constructed adjacent to the old causeway. This is expected to be delivered mid-year in 2021
• The road will remain closed at the causeway, with alternate routes in place until the new bridge is installed

Toorumbee Road:

• Toorumbee road has been successfully repaired to enable access
• There are teams in the area placing gravel and grading the road to restore it to a higher standard

Toorumbee Bridge:

• Repairs on Toorumbee bridge will commence from Monday next week, 26 April 2021
• The damage sustained to this timber bridge structure has been quite substantial, so it is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete these repairs
• Willi Willi road remains closed at this location, residents have an alternate route on either side of the bridge

Willi Willi Road (Toorumbee Road to Warbro Brook Road):

• A section of Willi Willi road between Toorumbee Bridge and Warbro Brook road remains in a poor condition but is accessible
• The team on Toorumbee road will progress to Willi Willi road once repairs are completed along the remainder of Toorumbee road

Dowlings Falls Road:

• The cleaning of the causeway on Dowling’s Falls road commenced on Monday 19 April
• The amount of work required in this location was substantial
• A large amount of material from upstream was deposited on the structure, inhibiting water flow and prohibiting access
• Pilot channels within the stream were required to enable the flow to be shallow enough for vehicles to pass

Maria River Road:

• The grading of Maria River road has commenced to allow for safe passage for residents and through traffic
• The contracted team engaged by Council is progressing well, it is hoped the portion maintained by Kempsey Shire Council will be completed during the course of next week 26-30 April
