Every can counts in South West Rocks

South West Rocks Cans for Community Group

One small group in South West Rocks is making a big impact, one can at a time. Led by local volunteer Ian Bradshaw, South West Rocks Cans for Community is transforming recycling into real change for the area.

The group collects 10 cent eligible containers and donates proceeds to local groups and projects. In 2024 alone, they recycled over 87,000 cans, bottles and containers—keeping them out of landfill and raising nearly $9,000 for the community.

To support their growing efforts in 2025, Council has stepped in with a donation of 150 durable yellow recycling bags, making it easier for volunteers to collect and transport items from local SWR Residents pick ups.

It’s a simple idea with powerful results — What might be thrown away is now supporting community groups and projects.

SWR Cans for Community is looking for more local residents and businesses to join their regular 10-cent container collections and help turn everyday recycling into community support. If you'd like to lend a hand or get involved, contact 0494 347 619 or swrc4c@gmail.com for more information.
