Bitou bush control in the foredunes of Hat Head Beach received a boost after Hat Head Dune Care received one of Council’s 2020-21 Community Grants.

Hat Head Dune Care were successful in their application for an Environmental Levy Grant and were awarded $5,000 to assist in the eradication of bitou bush affecting the foredunes at Hat Head Beach.

Hat Head Dune Care Coordinator, Peter Hull, said the grant allowed the group to undertake essential weed removal that has not been carried out in over six years.

“The funding made it possible for us to engage contractors to spray the bitou bush in the sand dunes, which is essential for stabilising the dunes and to protect and enhance a healthy ecosystem”

As with many community-led organisations across the Kempsey Shire, Hat Head Dune Care are always on the look out for a helping hand. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Peter on 0400 258 975
