Kempsey Shire Councillor Annette Lawrence has been appointed to a newly formed working group dedicated to developing a Closing the Gap toolkit for local government.

This important initiative, funded by the NSW Government and led by Local Government NSW, aims to strengthen how councils collaborate with Aboriginal communities and organisations to achieve meaningful, locally driven outcomes.

The working group brings together a diverse team of Aboriginal staff and elected representatives from councils across New South Wales. Their collective cultural knowledge and lived experience will be instrumental in shaping a toolkit that is practical, respectful and grounded in community perspectives.

The members announced for the working group are:

  • Robert Appo – Byron Shire Council
  • Richard Widders – City of Coffs Harbour
  • Cr Annette Lawrence – Kempsey Shire Council
  • Cr Fred McGrady – Moree Plains Shire Council
  • Landon Brady – Narrabri Shire Council

This collaboration marks an important step forward in supporting councils to deliver culturally informed and community-led solutions across NSW.
