Big turnout for March Council meetings

Kempsey Shire Council was delighted to welcome a strong turn out for the public forum on Monday night.
Staff and Councillors were excited to see so many people getting involved in local matters and demonstrating the passion and heart they have for our community.
Attending Council meetings is a crucial way for people in the community to voice their support and raise concerns about or support for upcoming Council projects.
Councillors listened to the issues raised on Monday night in the public forum, helping to inform their vote in the ordinary Council meeting on Tuesday morning. Members of the public spoke about the proposed concept development plans for the Macleay Valley Coast Holiday Parks and the Plans of Management for Council Managed Community Crown Lands.
Kempsey Shire Mayor, Liz Campbell, said she was delighted with the public turn out after the impact of public health restrictions over the last year.
“Public participation is crucial to the ongoing development of our community,” said Cr Campbell.
“It was terrific that so many people showed an interest in understanding the process of how the Council works and were committed to sharing their views on how to improve our community. We exist to serve the needs of the community, so feedback from community members is integral to the process and helps provide direction for future planning.”
The next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, 20 April. Anyone interested in any of the issues raised in the March public forum or the ordinary Council meeting can re-watch the livestream on Council’s YouTube channel or can read the business papers and minutes on Council’s website
Councillors and senior staff will also be available to talk to at t he Community Catch-Up events held throughout the year. The next one will be at the Stuarts Point Hall on Thursday, 25 March.
Due to the current COVID safety guidelines, places are limited, so please register to secure your spot. You can RSVP for Community Catch-Ups and submit a question here
Getting to know your local Councillors and communicating local needs is particularly important as our upcoming Council elections will be held this year on Saturday, 4 September.
