South Kempsey Park Master Plan

Summary

The plan outlines a vision for a multipurpose sporting and community precinct, including upgrades to drainage, parking and recreational facilities.

Key features include:

• Improved drainage across parkland and sports fields
• Upgrades to tennis courts for multi-sport use
• Formalised car and bus parking with better runoff control
• Enhancements to Jim Stirling Oval, including drainage, wicket upgrades, and a new pavilion
• Potential for a new cultural or sporting facility
• Improved access around the museum and gallery
• A completed learn-to-ride/pump track and provisions for part-time traders

The plan aims to support active recreation, community gatherings and future growth.

Master plans are a key tool for securing grant funding and are used to efficiently provide the right facilities for our communities.  

Funding

Development of the master plan was funded by Council.

Timeline

February 2024

Initial meetings were held with user groups to discuss potential improvements to the sporting site.
Drafting of the plan commenced in consultation with these groups.

September – October 2024

The draft plans were placed on public exhibition via Your Say Macleay to invite broader community feedback.
Community submissions were reviewed and, where appropriate, incorporated into the final plans.

December 2024

The final plan was presented to Council and formally adopted at the December Council Meeting.

This initiative is part of the endorsed Macleay Valley Sports Strategy.
