Summary

The Streets as Shared Spaces project revitalised two laneways in Kempsey's CBD: Elringtons Lane (beside Coles) and Savages Lane.

With the support of grant funding, Kempsey Shire Council delivered a range of improvements, including:

  • renewed pavement surfaces
  • water mains renewal
  • public artworks
  • additional lighting
  • upgraded CCTV.

These upgrades made the laneways safer and more inviting spaces for the community, while also supporting local businesses by encouraging people to spend more time in the area.

Timeframe

This project is complete with Elringtons and Savages laneways revamped as of April 2023.

Funding

Council received a Streets as Shared Spaces grant of $500,000 from the NSW Government. This funded the laneway improvements listed above except for the water mains renewal, which Council ifunded.

A huge thank you to all the artists, organisations, businesses and volunteers who made this project and the Macleay Youth Laneway Festival such a great success.
