Summary

In January 2023, Kempsey Shire Council was successful in securing grant funding to improve the safety of aircraft, operators and passengers, meet the requirements of medical and emergency services and enhance the delivery of essential goods and services at Kempsey Airport.
The scope of works for the project include:

  • resurfacing and selective rehabilitation of runway pavement;
  • stabilise grassed areas of the runway strip;
  • drainage improvements to the runway strip;
  • upgrade the Pilot Activated Lighting (PAL) system and line-marking to meet standards; and
  • install a secure all-weather ambulance shelter for use by NSW Ambulance to enhance patient care and working conditions for ambulance staff.

Kempsey Airport provides a vital service to the Kempsey Shire, acting as an operational base for NSW Rural Fire Service and Royal Flying Doctor Service. Additionally, the airport supports other public and private aero-medical services.
