Several roads are closed. This is also affecting a number of Council services, including waste facilities and collections. The Customer Service Centre is closed, however, phone lines remain operational.
Kempsey Shire Council has replaced 56 timber bridges across the Macleay Valley with concrete bridges. The new bridges are safer, more durable and able to withstand larger loads.
Council secured $20.5 million in funding for the project from the NSW Government's Fixing Country Bridges program.
Council also contributed around 10% of costs from its general fund to the project.
Work on the bridge replacements began in 2021 and was completed in June 2024.
